As a media owner that is solely focused on the shopping centre space, we felt it was important to be there in person as this environment opens up to the public – an audience that has been deprived of this leisure space for 84 days.
Below is a rundown of our experiences from across multiple centres:
• Overall a very positive atmosphere amongst an audience who have been waiting for the opportunity to visit.
• Car parks remain open as usual. As soon as you are parked, directional floor markings guide you to the nearest designated entry point, allowing the centres to easily manage footfall numbers.
• Whilst queues formed early in the journey as you wait to access the centres themselves, these queues did move quickly and people were all behaving responsibly by keeping their distance.
• Once inside, clear guidance is given with one-way systems mapped out to navigate you around to different stores, with most centres asking people to stick to the left hand side and providing ‘u-turn’ points to allow easy access to either side of the walkways.
• Certain stores are checking temperature before entry and almost every store provides the opportunity to sanitise your hands at the entrance.
• Staff numbers around the centre have been increased to make the experience as seamless as possible.
• Once inside a store, you have freedom to browse at your own leisure, with everyone maintaining their own values on social distancing with the right intent.
• Checkout processes are also incredibly safe and efficient spaced-out tills, screen separators and contactless payments.
