We recently sat down with Bluewater regular Sandra Withers who ran us through her relationship with the centre:
Q: Bluewater in Kent is your closest retail lifestyle destination. How often would you say you visit and what can you tell us about your last trip there?
A: I visit probably about twice a month. Once is usually for a focused shopping trip – functional and as quick a visit as possible and the other will be much more recreational and leisurely – a bit of shopping, perhaps lunch and / cinema.
Q: What's normally the focus of your trips to Bluewater?
A:The normal focus is shopping, however I’ve been there just to go to the cinema or meet friends for lunch / dinner.
Q: Are there any particular events in your family’s calendar which involve this venue?
A: We always go to Bluewater on Christmas Eve – it’s become a family tradition – early start for ice skating, followed by hot chocolate, a quick ‘mooch’ about the shops before lunch and then an afternoon at the Cinema for the big Christmas blockbuster.
Q: It sounds like visiting Bluewater is a social event for you and your family. Do you normally go there with other people? Do you ever go by yourself?
A: Yes, we often go with other members of our family – parents, sisters, nieces and I often meet girlfriends there for coffee or dinner and a catchup. I do go there on my own - usually straight from work and it tends to be a much more functional visit, purely to shop (I usually have a list handy!)
Q: And how do you feel when you’re there? Are you excited to be there?
A: It all depends on why I’m there. I do enjoy visiting Bluewater and I’m always excited at Christmas time.
Q: What are the attractions there at Bluewater which appeal to you most? What would you like to see more of?
A: The cinema is always a winner – I would travel there, rather than use a closer venue. My son loves Gravity and, of course, the Ice Rink is always a hit.
Q: When you're at Bluewater, how many times do you check your social media? Do you ever upload any content from your visit?
A: I check my social media a couple of times whilst I’m there and will post a ‘check-in’ or upload a photo if I / we are doing something other than ‘just’ shopping.
Q: And what about your son and your husband, what do they enjoy most about your visits to Bluewater?
A: Oliver (my son) enjoys The Lego Shop, Gravity and all the burger restaurants! Jason (husband) likes the free parking, the choice of shops and restaurants and that we can just go to one place for both shopping and entertainment.
Q: Your trips sound like a lot of fun but who controls the budget when you’re there at Bluewater?
A: Budget? What Budget? It’s rare that we just go to Bluewater with no agenda or list, so I suppose both Jason and I decide the budget as much in advance as possible.
Q: People typically feel happy and excited when they're at a lifestyle destination. By comparison, how do you feel when you're on your way to work? What are you thinking about when you're driving to work?
A: Hhmm, most days I look forward to going to work so I suppose ‘happy’ is a good description. Often I feel tired – but who doesn’t? I’m usually mentally compiling lists – what I have to do at work today, what I need to buy at the supermarket, does Oliver have enough items of school uniform to get him through the week!
